DÉJÁ Tuesday

2Deja_TuesdayR. Kelly can’t read?!?! What? Did you see this? While giving a motivational speech in Chicago (reason#87 the Olympics aren’t coming to Chicago) he said that he can’t read. Did he really admit that he’s illiterate? Before you jump on me for my grammar, that’s different. The fact that I have a tendency to ramble on and use run on sentences has nothing to do with the fact that a CELEBRITY/Millionaire can’t read. I’m amazed. How does this happen? Just because you can sing, you don’t have to be able to read?

What has happened to our society? I don’t want to hear this bull crap about how he was the youngest of four children to a single mother and was raised in the projects of south Chicago and never graduated high school. HE’S 42 YEARS OLD! Do you think at sometime between Bump n Grind and I Believe I Can Fly he could have paid someone to teach him how to read. Too busy? What about sometime between I’m Your Angel and Pee-gate? It’s bad enough he’s still in the public eye after he pee’ed preyed on young girls. Shut up I know he was found not guilty, notice I didn’t say innocent, but that brother pissed on them kids and you know it.  And besides, I can write whatever the heck I want to. It isn’t like he can read it. I wonder if he needs an accountant?

Have a good week  everybody.

2Deja_TuesdayWhassup my peeps!?!? Did you have a good weekend? I know I did. This weekend happened to be a little bit different from the past couple though. Although there were a lot of good games and some big upsets, that’s not what I was the most excited about. This weekend was the season premiere of Dexter and Californication.

Dexter is secretly my hero. If you haven’t seen it …..why? Dexter is a crime scene blood splatter analyst and a serial killer. He picks out the ones that get away with murder(no pun intended) and issues true punishment or judgement, which ever. It drives me crazy to see some scumbag walk away with a slap on the wrist for some major crime. I guess watching Dexter on TV, keeps me from doing that crap in real life. Just kidding FBI (shhh…no I’m not kidding).

Californication is David Duchovny’s series about a smoking, drinking, womanizing writer. I really like this show too. It is so funny. This is another one that if you haven’t seen it, you need to check it out. Now a little bit of a disclaimer though. If you are offended by foul language, sexual content, violence, occasional drug use, and some nudity, this might not be for you. Wait a minute …. some nudity…..who am I kidding. The only place you’ll see more boobs on TV is CSPAN. Have a great week everyone.

2Deja_TuesdayPardon me if I seem less than enthused today. Trust me when I say it has nothing to do with the quality of my weekend. I had a really good weekend. It’s amazing though how one crappy Monday can erase the high of a good weekend.

As usual, I spent my weekend sitting on my over-sized arse in my “football cocoon” which consists of my recliner, my laptop, and my 65″ flat panel wide-screen 1080p hdtv with surround sound. And as if that wasn’t enough, you should check out my wife. She’s hot. I married WAY outta my league. But I had a good weekend.

Saturday had alot of good games. Florida beat Tennessee, USC got beat by Washington on a last second field goal, there was a shoot out between Georgia and Arkansas and Texas and Texas Tech. Sunday had some good ones too. Dirty Sanchez and the Jets beat the Patriots, the Ravens beat the Chargers, and the Giants screwed up the home opener for the Cowboys.

And finally I learned a valuable lesson today. Literally. A couple of our local city council persons seem to have a bit of a “god-complex” and think that their way is the only way. Even if their way is going to cost the city employees who work their butts off to make them look smart everyday, ALOT of money. I think we could all learn a lesson from Spider Man. “With great power, comes great responsibility”. God help us all. Have a good week everybody.

2Deja_TuesdayWhew! One down, four to go. We are one day closer to Friday, cheer up. If you are a football fan, and I am, this past weekend was a good one. Alot of great games and some upsets too.

This weekend a couple true freshman quarterbacks stood out. Michigan’s Forcier threw the game winning touchdown with just seconds left to beat Notre Dame by four. Then Saturday night, USC’s Barkley marched into the “Horseshoe” and led the Trojans on a game winning 4th quarter touchdown drive to beat Ohio State. In an upset, this weekend Oklahoma State got beat at home by Houston dropping them out of the top 10 along with Ohio State.

Sunday was the debut of the NFL Networks new channel the NFL Redzone. This channel has single handily changed the way I watch football on Sunday. Instead of only seeing 3 or 4 games on Sunday afternoon, I saw EVERY score Sunday, every touchdown, every field goal, and every safety. It was truly unbelievable. Things I would have only seen on some highlight reel, I got to see live. Thank you NFL Network. There were several good games. Every game really had it’s moments. From last second touchdowns, to records being tied or broken, to just awesome stats like 185 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns or 6 touchdown passes, it was  a great day of football.

I’m not one of these people that will only talk about the games he got right. I took a few hits this week. I’m going to chalk it up to it being early in the season. This week will be better though, I’m sure. I hit the Auburn spread and picked the winners in the USC and Georgia Tech games. I missed the spread in the rest of the college games though. The NFL was a little better to me. The Saints covered the spread but went over the 49. I picked the Vikings to cover the spread in Favre’s debut, and they did. NOBODY saw the Bills being competitive so …. back off. Honestly, if I had knew that, I wouldn’t be sitting here right now. I’d be kicked back in my pj’s with my homie Hef. But what a finish. The look in Brady’s eyes with 90 seconds left, priceless. The Chargers also pulled one out in the final seconds to beat the Raiders. Neither the Patriots or the Chargers covered the spread though.

And finally, I guess Baby has to go back to sitting in the corner. Patrick Swayze died Monday at the age of 57. Corny movies or not, I really liked Swayze. Seems like every week we are losing someone else famous. I mean real famous people we knew, not the guy that invented the piece of plastic at the end of shoe strings. It’s been a tough year. Stay safe.

2Deja_TuesdayWhat’s up everybody. I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. It’s back to work today, but on the bright side, it’s only a 4 day work week.

Well let’s get started. This weekend marked the kickoff of the 2009 NCAA football season and the end of the NFL preseason. As usual, the final week of the NFL preseason games were basically meaningless. Unless that is, you are trying for a spot on the practice squad. The first weekend of College football on the other hand, was great. Possibly the biggest news of the weekend came out of Arlington Texas. And it didn’t have anything to do with Jerry Jones. Sam Bradford gets injured and Oklahoma loses Bradford and the season opener. Sooner fans everywhere are on suicide watch. Monday it was said that Bradford could miss up to 4 to 6 weeks. Let me be the first to call no Heisman for Bradford and no National Championship for Oklahoma.

Several teams got off to slow starts, but turned it on in the second half. Call it rust, cobwebs, or week 1 jitters, but you better make sure its gone because week 2 steps it up a little. I was 4 of 5 for week one. Boise State, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma State were all winners while Florida State let Miami take one from them at home in the 4th quarter 38-34.

The first ever night race, the Labor Day Classic 500 from Atlanta Motor Speedway, was Sunday night. Kasey Kahne passed Kevin Harvick with just a handful of laps to go for the win. With just one race until the Chase starts, next weeks race from Richmond should be fairly intense.

And finally, we will have to wait until Wednesday night (on ESPN by the way) to see the New York Yankee’s Jeter try again to break Lou Gehrig’s hit record. Jeter needs just four more hits to break the record.

This week should be full of great games and exciting match ups. I, for one, can’t wait until Thursday night. Have a great week everybody.

DÉJÁ Tuesday

First, let me apologize for missing Memory Lane Monday yesterday. It was a long day and I did not prepare anything the night before. I’m still getting the hang of this. And not to mention, I am in the process of getting a hosted site with Wordpress. I’m working on layouts and things now. So stay tuned and que the Jefferson’s theme song “I’m Movin‘ on up!!!”.
Now, let’s just jump right off in this. Thursday night Vick made his debut with the Beagles Eagles. And I must admit, not a bad start. Not quite back to the old Vick, but he’s headed in that direction. He went 4 of 4 for 19 yards with 1 yard rushing. Eagles pulled it out 33-32. My Tampa Bay Buccs also lost Thursday night 10-6. But on a brighter note they did name Leftwich as starting QB.
Friday night’s big story was Tom Brady getting dumped on his shoulder. No major problems expected though.
Saturday was a day full of games. Too bad it’s still pre-season. The Atlanta/San Diego game was fun to watch. There were just so many hyped-players for this season, you just knew it was gonna be a good one. And as predicted, the Falcons took this one 27-24.
Sunday was a blast. I spent all day playing Tiger Woods golf on the Wii with my kids. Obviously I owned them. Then Sunday night we watched the highly publicized return of Jay Cutler to Denver, zzzzzzzz. In my opinion, this one was a suckfest. But like I always say, “bad football is better than no football”.
Monday was a long day. It started out with me taking my ol‘ lady to the hospital to have an outpatient procedure done. I will not say which one because I don’t want to embarrass her, but it involved a camera being shoved up her pooper. That’s all I’m saying. We waited for ever in the waiting room. I saw about a 600 pound man. I told my wife we were waiting so long because he was having the same procedure and they lost the doctor. I’m not saying he was fat, but they could have fit the camera, boom mic, news desk, action 6 van, and cast of the Today show in his ass butt. I’m not saying he was fat, but when he sits down in the bathtub, his toilets overflow. I’m not saying he’s……ok I’ll stop. Monday night I did get to go see Brady’s first football game of the 2009 season. It was a really good game. Our Hayden Wildcats beat local rival, the Corner Yellow Jackets, 28-6. It really wasn’t even as close as the score sounds. Great job guys.
Well that has been my replay of the weekends events. Hope you have great week!

Déjá Tuesday

As the anticipation builds for the upcoming football season, college and NFL, let’s take a look back at this weekend. I know it’s only preseason football, but let’s face it, preseason football is better than no football.

Let’s start with Friday night. Brett Favre made his debut in purple. Favre was only 1 of 4 . His only completion was a 4 yard dump to former Florida Gator, rookie Percy Harvin. I’ll save my old man, rusty shoulder comments for later in the season. I will admit that the man only had 2 days of practice. Not too bad.
Saturday night my Tampa Bay Buccaneers squeaked one out against the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-23. Preseason or not, any win at Jacksonville is a good win. Also Saturday night, one of my favorite Nascar races, the Bristol night race. My favorite, Tony Stewart, was plagued with issues all night and finished 33rd. Others I picked to do well were Jeff Gordon 23rd, Carl Edwards 16th, Dale Jr. 9th, and one of my least favorite drivers, Kyle Busch won.
Sunday I got to see the New York Yankees stick it to the Boston Red SUX, I mean Sox 8 to 4. The Yankees and the Sox scored a combined 58 runs in the weekend 3 game series. Pretty impressive.
And finally, Monday Night Football showcased the New York Jets at the Baltimore Ravens. I have been sick of hearing about Mark Sanchez. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a USC fan. Does that mean I am pulling against Sanchez? Let’s put it this way. I despise the Tennessee Volunteers, but if you offer me Peyton Manning in fantasy football, I’ll take him in a heart beat. So the answer is no. I do think he made a huge mistake not finishing his senior season with the Trojans. One more year in the NCAA would make a world of difference coming into the NFL. Monday night, Sanchez’s first pass was a huge completion for a touchdown! Unfortunately, it was to Haloti Ngata, the nose tackle for the Ravens. Sanchez went 3 of 8 for 43 yards, an interception, and a touchdown in a losing effort. Ravens win 24-23.
Be sure to check back tomorrow for Wagering Wednesday and I’ll give you my picks for this coming weekend. Have a great week everybody!

Déjá Tuesday

Déjá Tuesday WAS going to be my series that referenced the goings on of the past weekend whether sports, entertainment, politics or whatever. But I cannot over look what has transpired today.

This could not be more fitting of a Déjá Tuesday. That’s right, the NFL’s passing and TD leader is back. Yes the retired Green Bay Packer, I want to be a Minnesota Viking, Green Bay will not let me, I’ll just retire, oh wait I’m a New York Jet, I’m retired again, maybe I’ll be a Viking, no I’m staying retired for good, oops I’M A VIKING, Brett Favre is lacing ‘em up for one more season.
Stop looking at the calendar. Today IS Tuesday August 18th 2009. I know it seems like we’ve all seen this before, last year, last month, last week, and I’m willing to wager next summer too. As ESPN called it, Favre is committing “Cheesehead Treason”. Ol’ #4 signed a deal worth $10 to $12 million, depending on who you talk to, with the Minnesota Vikings.
I liked Brett Favre. Yes, past tense. If the first time he retired would have been the only time, I would still love Brett Favre. Now whether you believe the on again off again soap opera that has been “The Days of our Favre” has tarnished his career or not, you cannot deny it’s
annoyance. I personally do not think it affects his
career. He will still enter Canton Ohio on his
first ballot. He is still one of the greatest to “sling a pigskin”, but he will turn 40 this year. His gunslinger mentality is slowly catching up with him. His

shoulder is beginning to show it’s age,
and Brett and his orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Andrews,
knows he’s not going to be able to keep up this saga too much longer.
So, once again we ready ourselves for the Brett Favre farewell tour. To the Vikings, congrats
on signing a “REAL” quarterback. To the Packers, get over it. He’s not that good. He can’t beat you by himself. I’d be more worried about Adrian Peterson. And to Brett Favre, let’s be careful not to become the Rolling Stones of the NFL.
